As light as a feather

... with a weight of 120 kg including batteries Elektra One is a real ultralight aircraft. The one-seater can fly about 400 km with a maximum flight time of three hours. Elektra is driven by an electric motor HPD13.5 from Geiger Engineering with a weight of 4.7 kg and a power of 16 kW.

In March 2011 the aircraft completed its first test flight. In summer 2011 the PC-Aero team wants to participate with Elektro One in the NASA-/CAFE-Green Flight Challenge competition in California. Two and four-seater variants are planned for the future.

Jeff Koons Art Car

BMW will participate in the Le Mans 24-hour race with a racing car designed by Jeff Koons. The US American Pop Art artist and the Bavarian car builder are now presenting the project in New York - and Koons showed the first drafts of the loud-colour racer.
Already a few weeks ago it became known that Jeff Koons would design the 17th Art Car from BMW. For the first time today, the artist showed drafts in New York of how he imagines the optics of the car to be like - namely very colourful and very dynamic. That is perfect because at the same time BMW announced that the M3 GT2 designed by Koons will take part in the Le Mans 24-hour race on 12 and 13 June this year. The completed racing car in Jeff-Koons design is scheduled to be presented two weeks before the race on 1 June at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Formula Student Germany?
In a team students build a single seat formula racing car to participate in a worldwide competition. What is important is not speed but the overall package of construction, performance, financial planning and sales arguments.

The challenge of Formula Student is that in addition to their normal studies, students are to gain intensive experience in building and manufacturing as well as with the economic aspects of the automotive industry.

New discipline: electric mobility

24 teams intensively worked on solutions to an eco-friendly mobility. Finally eight of them managed to get into the final. Besides all other obstacles the teams have to overcome, scrutineering is hardest: "First of all, all electric drive elements have to be checked for safety. The complete high-voltage system is marked orange on the vehicle and every racing bolide is fitted with an e-stop," says Ulf Steinfurth, head of the scrutineering team.

"Team of TU Delft wins Formula Student Germany The winner of Formula Student Germany 2010 is the team of TU Delft. In the new electric vehicle discipline, Formula Student Electric, the greenteam of the Stuttgart University won the cup."

Green Wheels: Shell Eco-Marathon

We'll travel to the U.S. Shell Eco-marathon. The challenge? High School and University students compete to see whose vehicle can go the furthest on the least amount of fuel -- winners take home $10,000. Top teams are gunning for up to 2000 miles per gallon. We'll check in with the key players and be there at the finish line to see the most fuel efficient eco-ride take home the prize. We'll also meet up with "hypermiler" Wayne Gerdes. Wayne can get eye-popping mpg numbers on just about any vehicle he drives. He'll take us for a ride and show us his tricks.

The 2010 edition of the Shell Eco-Marathon Europe will be held at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz track in Germany during 6th 7th May.
